PART i. Batman and Stuff.

June 30 – July 3

I guess I should say we spent our first four days of the trip in Pinto, Madrid, rather than Madrid itself.

Pinto is this little (as I’ve always described it since I got there) community/town kind of thing. It’s so cute. It took us about ten minutes to actually find the hotel after we got to Pinto.

And it took only about an hour to run into our first problem of the trip.

Arrival time: about 9 am

Check-in time: 2 pm

I guess it’s not exactly a problem, more like an unpleasant outside-the-plan thing that happens and we have to deal with. And how did this happen, you may ask. Well this is how it was supposed to be:

8am: MAY&MOOK ARRIVE IN MADRID. GO TO BUS STATION AND WAIT FOR NAM. (Bus station because Nam lives in Pamplona)

~11am: NAM ARRIVES IN MADRID. GRAB SOME LUNCH. GO TO HOTEL.

2pm: CHECK IN

Good plan right? Well, plans change.

What actually happened:

The night before: Nam’s plans changed, she couldn’t leave until the afternoon.

8am: MAY&MOOK ARRIVE IN MADRID.

9am: MAY&MOOK ARRIVE AT HOTEL

9am-2pm: – MAY&MOOK WALKED AROUND AIMLESSLY — MAY&MOOK WALKED BACK TO HOTEL BECAUSE THEY WERE BEING STARED AT, BEING THE ONLY ASIANS THERE THAT DIDN’T OWN A MINIMART… — MAY&MOOK SKYPED WITH MOM&DAD (May and Mook are sisters, by the way) — MAY&MOOK BORED TO DEATH

2pm: – WELL MAY&MOOK FINALLY GOT THEIR ROOMS  — NAP TIME………….cuz you know, jet lag… — THE DISCOVERY OF ASIAN MINIMARTS

And the rest of the afternoon was spent eating chips and gummy worms, watching SNL, and waiting for good old Nam to arrive…

~7pm: GAVE IN TO HUNGER AND GOT SOME PIZZA. DISCOVERED THAT EATING AT 7PM IS EXTREMELY EARLY.

some time during the night: Nam’s not gonna make it tonight.

So that was our first day in Spain. How exciting.

THEN CAME JULY 1, 2011

OH HEY LOOK NAM’S HERE (she’s the one in the middle, in case you’re wondering).

I should tell you, the reason we were staying in Pinto is because that’s where the Warner Bros. Park is. These first four days were for the park, not Madrid itself. Why? BECAUSE IT’S THE WARNER BROS. PARK. Duh (yeh das right I’m bringing DUH back).

And so our journey to the park begins. Started off with a couple of wrong trains, but we got there eventually.

It wasn’t Disneyland or anything, but it had its charms. The park was kind of small, pretty much empty (probably due to the fact that it was only 6pm when we got there), and AWESOME. We just pretty much walked onto the ride without having to wait in line or anything, and the rides, OH THE RIDES. (Just so you know, I’m something of an amusement park junkie, I can’t get enough of that shit).

So we spent our time in the park, had our fun, encountered some cute guys at the game booths, screamed our pretty little heads off, then it was time to go back. We’d planned to spend the night looking for some tapas bars in Madrid, so we got back to the hotel, showered, changed, then headed out to the city.

So our waiter wasn’t the best photographer in the world…this is his attempt to get a good picture of us and the restaurant 😀

I still don’t know what that restaurant is called, just that their tortillas de patatas was amazing. This was my first time eating at 11pm and can legitly call it dinner, because when I eat at 11pm at home, well that’s just me being hungry at 11pm.

We went straight back to the hotel because we were pretty tired, and we had planned to come back into the city the next day anyway.

And that was our second day in Madrid…(I know it’s off to a pretty boring start, but I pinky promise you it gets better).

So here’s the thing:

Summer of 2011 had been the best one yet (minus the fact that two of my best friends couldn’t make the trip), and I’m about to share this awesomeness with you, so be prepared, it’s going to be quite a long read (and this is just the beginning of it) 🙂

I guess it all started when Nam and I were talking about how we (me, her, my sister, our other friends Sookhee and Risako) should all go on a Eurotrip. Now this Eurotrip thing had been popping up in our conversations for a while, but we never really started planning anything. Well this time, we did.

On July 5th, 2010 (yes I remember the date…), we started officially planning the trip.

the original calender (by the end of the trip, well, things change…)

This was my very first time planning a trip, and OH MY GOD I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH. I keep this little notebook that has everything and I love. It. To. Death.

Anyway, on to the story…

PROLOGUE

June 30, 12 am.

SO. Almost a year later, it was finally June 30th, and Mook and I were all packed and ready to endure the thirteen-hour flight to Madrid.

The thing that will take us to Madrid 🙂

So, flight TG948 consisted of:

  • A baby
  • Very awkward “Excuse me I need to go to the bathroom” situations
  • Holding in my pee to prevent the awkward situations (and also because I didn’t want to wake the lady next to me up…)
  • Lots of reading
  • Not enough sleeping
  • Good food
  • The Eagle…don’t watch that movie…
  • view from the top 😀
  • Lots&lots of counting down the hours until we land…
Then we were 29 minutes away from landing 😀
first glimpse of Madrid 😀

AND THEN WE LANDED
